Read why four WA women shaved for their friend

Following their friends diagnosis of acute myeloid leukaemia in October, a supportive and brave group of West Australian women decided to stand by their friend in an inspirational display of support.
Lavanya Scholes, aged 27, told her friends that she would lose her hair during her chemotherapy treatment. On hearing this, Jyoti Manik, Hayley Porter, Lauren Taylor and Kiran Manik decided that they would shave theirs too.

The team registered for Worlds Greatest Shave to incorporate a fundraiser for the Leukaemia Foundation. They gained sponsorship via email and posted daily updates on their facebook profiles as they headed towards their fundraising goal of $5,000. And they’ve made it!

Kiran Manik, said “The main reason we shaved our heads was to do it with Lav in hospital when she had to shave hers. So on November 30th Hayley, Lavanya and I all shaved our heads together.”
“Jyoti and Lauren shaved the following week – Jyoti at home and Lauren at hospital with Lav watching. Lav’s husband Simon also shaved his head.”
“Lavanya said it’s the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for her. Shaving our heads was a way we could show her our support, and how much we love her.”
