Central coast rugby league believes in brave Aimee

Kelly Drewe and her husband Wayne know what it is like to sit by the bedside of a sick child.  Their daughter Aimee, 12, has Hodgkin lymphoma and is being treated at Westmead Hospital in Sydney.

“It is difficult to witness your child endure the impact of a treatment that can last months,” said Kelly. “All you can think about is how you can make it easier for them, and hope that those who come after us have the advantage of better treatments that won’t put their child through such negative side-effects.”

Despite the impact of blood cancer in their own lives, the family wants to help others by participating in this year’s World’s Greatest Shave. The family has set a $20,000 fundraising target and has been amazed by the support. Among them is the Central Coast Bears who will host a training day for local rugby league players aged 12-16 years. Proceeds will boost the Drewe’s World’s Greatest Shave total.

“I would like to thank the Central Coast Rugby League for being 100% behind us,” said Kelly, “I especially thank Trent Barrett from the Cronulla Sharks.  He has been instrumental in the organisation of this opportunity and without his help there is no way we would have been able to do what we have done so far."

“By participating in this year’s World’s Greatest Shave, we will be contributing to the Leukaemia Foundation’s work,” said Kelly. “Funds raised will go towards the care and cure of patients and families going through a similar experience to us.”
