Family love inspires Team Pullywood
Family is extremely important to the members of Team Pullywood, who are taking part in the World’s Greatest Shave in memory of Barbara Stinear and to show their support to Michael Wood, the second family member to face a blood cancer diagnosis.
Team members Laura Wood, Graham Wood, John Wood, Amanda Pulford and Melissa Stinear are looking forward to the event, saying “we want to give a little of ourselves to help in this great cause and to show our family that we’re with them every step of the way, no matter what happens!”
Melissa describes her inspiration to take part. “In 2004 Mum was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia. I have watched Mum determinedly fight cancer for 10 years and sadly she passed away on Friday, 5th February 2010.”
For Laura, making the bold decision to shave her hair is one way for her to show her support for her brother Michael, who is currently undergoing treatment for hodgkin’s lymphoma. “I never imagined that this could happen to my family, especially not to Michael who has been so brave. I'm shaving my head to keep the smile on his face and to let him know that I am always here for him,” said Laura.
“The generosity of the community and Leukaemia Foundation has been amazing,” Amanda said. “Now we all want to give our support back to the Leukaemia Foundation so they can continue to make a real difference in the lives of patients and families who are affected by blood cancer.”
